Xavier GALLOO

CURRENT (AND PREVIOUS) FUNCTION

Doctor Xavier Galloo graduated as a cardiologist at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel - UZ Brussel in 2020. During the final year of his training he already followed additional training in sports cardiology and actively participated in the sports medical consultation in BLITS-VUB under the direction of the sports physicians Dr Luk Buyse and Dr Wouter Eraly. After this, he did a 2-year clinical and research fellowship at Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC-Leiden, NL) where he further specialised in cardiac imaging (mainly echocardiography). Since 01/01/2023, he is back at UZ Brussel full-time as a staff member in the cardiology department and will again actively collaborate with colleagues in BLITS-VUB with a special focus on cardiac problems in athletes.

RESEARCH AREA

At UZ Brussel, Dr Galloo will focus on research into heart valves and structural heart disease. Research will also be done in BLITS on cardiac function and cardiac fatigue in athletes.
