WHAT?
The Brussels Laboratory for Exercise and Top Sport has a climate chamber, equipped with a treadmill and ergometer, which is mainly used for climate specific testing and acclimatization purposes. A climate chamber offers a controlled setting where temperature and humidity levels can be precisely regulated to replicate various environmental conditions. The chamber can simulate a temperature between 5 and 50 degrees and a humidity between 0 and 100%.
FOR WHO?
Climate specific testing
In terms of testing performance and adaptations, subjects can be exposed to specific temperature and humidity settings to simulate different climates, allowing our physiologists to study how the body responds physiologically and psychologically. For instance, individuals can be subjected to cold or extreme heat to assess thermoregulatory responses, hydration levels and cognitive function. By manipulating these variables, our physiologists gain valuable insights into how humans adapt to diverse environmental challenges and can develop strategies to optimize performance and resilience in different climates.
Climate specific training
Similarly, our climate chamber is utilized for training purposes, where athletes or professionals prepare for competitions or work in specific environmental conditions. Through controlled exposure to heat, cold, or humidity, individuals can acclimatize their bodies, improve heat tolerance, and enhance performance in challenging environments. Thus, climate chambers serve as invaluable tools for understanding human responses to environmental stressors and for optimizing performance and adaptation in various climates.
